Families get better deals on health cover

CHILDLESS couples pay the same in health insurance premiums as families with children, research shows.

Financial services research group Cannex’s study of 1500 forms of health cover said families were in a better position to afford private health insurance.

“Some health funds have decided to take their child-friendly offers even further by waiving the hospital excess if the child is admitted to hospital,” Cannex head of research Steve Mickenbecker said.

“Others offer no-gap dental services at participating dental clinics.”

In terms of the overall product, Cannex said AHM, HBA/Mutual Community and Medibank Private had the best hospital, extras and package cover.

Cannex said AHM had the best hospital cover across Australia, while MBF had “very competitive” extras cover.

The research said NIB excelled in combining hospital and extras cover.
